WORTHLESSSTUDIOS Community Day + Block Party

Please join us for a WORTHLESSSTUDIOS Community Day and a block party filled with art, food, and music. To kick off the festivities, we will gather with community members in McCarren Park to unveil our first public installation of 1-800 Happy Birthday. Following our gathering in the park, we will head back to 7 Knickerbocker Ave for the rest of the day! 

1-2PM 1-800 Happy Birthday installation, McCarren Park.
2-4PM – Food, beverages, and t-shirts by Art1
4-5PM – Healing Walk with live painting by Chris Green
5-6PM – A night of words with Lolo Lature (headliner)
6-8PM – Hip hop after party with DJ Hard Hittin Harry, rapper Buddha Chief aka The Cure Rater, Ya’aqov and more

We are so fortunate to be a part of this neighborhood and the larger community of Bushwick/East Williamsburg. As part of this free public event we are proud to partner with the Bed-Stuy native, artist Art1, the 1-800 Happy Birthday muralist, to provide custom airbrushed T-shirts. Then, we take a tour of the 1-800 Happy Birthday exhibition at the Healing Walk with curator Klaudia Ofwona Draber and the mental health professional and activist Cameron Bertrand.

The Healing Walk is a slow and intentional tour of the 1-800 Happy Birthday exhibition with dedicated time for reflection, sharing, and group conversation alongside mental health professionals of color. This event is designed for everyone regardless of where they are in their healing journeys. By generating a safe space for reflection and conversation, our hope is to contribute to ‘mental wealth,’ prioritizing the needs of Black and Brown communities.

The headliner for the event is Lolo Lature, the aunt of Tony Robinson. Joined by her father poet, Gary L. Carter, Lolo Lature will perform A night of words in response to the 1-800 Happy Birthday exhibition. Lolo, the aunt of Tony Robinson, one of the celebrants represented in 1-800 Happy Birthday, uses her poetry to tell a story about when she grew up in New York and what she witnesses as a Brown woman in America. Speaking directly from the brownstone stoop of the exhibition, Lolo will fill the space with her voice in celebration of her nephew’s life and artistic expression as a mode of activism and healing.

A night of words and the Healing Walk will be followed by a hip hop after party hosted by Art1 with DJ Hard Hittin Harry, rap artist Buddha Chief aka The Cure Rater, Ya’aqov, and dancers. Full lineup to be announced soon.
