The Place Where You Belong: Design Exhibition

July 27 – Aug. 9, all day,
Free
A6 – 23

Architects and urbanists Francis Aguillard and Davis Owen are launching ‘The Place Where You Belong,’ an open-air exhibition that posits several first possibilities for the public realm in Fire Island Pines. Using speculative design and temporary and easily disassembled display structures, the ephemeral installation invites residents and visitors to imagine what inclusive, enriching, and joyful public space on the island could look like.

The exhibition also includes a public communal outdoor showers—one of the eight initial interventions being proposed for the island. The project continues the conversation online, inviting visitors to share their thoughts and imagine their own possibilities.

Sponsored by The Architectural League of New York and the New York State Council on the Arts, the exhibition responds to a desire l for shared spaces beyond beachfronts and boardwalks. It poses questions typically reserved for planners and developers directly to the people who live and visit here: What would bring greater joy, belonging, or meaning to the community
