The Atelier at Flowerfield is excited to present “Long Island Landscapes,” a dual exhibition of local artists Jonathan Van Brunt and Patricia Yantz opening Thursday, August 14th

This exhibition, “Long Island Landscapes”, highlights individual styles with unique artistic visions and perspectives by local artists Jonathan Van Brunt and Patricia Yantz.
Jonathan Van Brunt was born and raised in Freeport, NY. The youngest of seven, he grew up in a home with a wealth of visual art—primarily commercial illustration found in the many books in his home. He studied art at Maine College of Art & Design, where he earned a B.F.A. in Printmaking. He went on to earn an M.F.A in Painting at Ohio University of Art & Design where he developed his abstract art style while teaching two-dimensional design during his graduate study.
His love for landscape painting came from viewing the work of Winslow Homer, Neil Welliver, and Andrew Wyeth. A focus on composition, as well as expressive application of paint is the basis of his work. His recent move to Suffolk County has kept a steady flow of paintings, in both acrylics and oil, that depict parks and beaches throughout Suffolk County.
Patricia Yantz is known for her acrylic and pastel landscape paintings, and as a former secondary art teacher at Sachem School District. At an early age she watched her father draw wood boats and he gave her some drawing paper to start drawing boats, too! Besides her father, Sister Lucy at Saint Mary’s High School in Manhasset inspired her to pursue art in college, so she went on to earn a B.S. and M.S. in Art Education and an M.S.W. in Social Work along with a Professional Diploma in School Administration.
Patricia has been a resident of Setauket for over 42 years and is especially drawn to the creek at West Meadow, Avalon Nature Preserve, and Stony Brook Harbor. Color changes the emotion and the feel of a painting, so she often works in warm colors to uplift the viewer and she tries to harmonize or unify colors in terms of light and atmosphere.
The Atelier is excited to present this dual show. The exhibition opens Thursday, August 14th, with a reception at 5:30PM, and runs through September 25th. For more information or any questions, please call 631-250-9009 or go to https://theatelieratflowerfield.org/past-and-future-exhibits.
