“Painting Waves & Rocky Coastline with Soft Pastels” an in-person 2-day workshop instructed by Lana Ballot, Saturday, August 9th and Sunday August 10, 10AM-4PM, at The Atelier at Flowerfield

Waves crashing against the rocks is one of the most interesting subjects to paint if you love the ocean! In this workshop, you will learn how to capture the energy of the crashing waves, their airy foam and mist picked up by the wind, the wet surface of the rocks sparkling in the bright sun.. You will learn how to paint translucent waves, convincing rocks with volume and texture and how to make them look wet and sparkling in the sun.

In two projects, we will compare the cooler crisp colors of the coastline during the day and much warmer colors of the ocean and the shoreline at the sunset.

Students are welcome to use the provided reference photos or they can use their own reference.

Lana Ballot has been painting for years and is a master of subtle and luminous colors in pastels. We are so fortunate that she will be sharing her expertise in this workshop.

She is a professional artist and pastel painting instructor. She has been teaching pastel painting throughout the United States and internationally. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, a member of the IAPS Master Circle and a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists.  Her work has been exhibited and has won awards in national juried shows.
