Idle Hour’s Peace Haven

One of the strangest chapters in Oakdale’s history took place during the Peace Haven years.  This began in 1938 when the Royal Fraternity of Master Metaphysicians bought Vanderbilt’s Idle Hour estate and used it for a wide array of activities, including their Baby Jean experiment.  As reported in period newspapers nationwide, this was to prove that immortality could be achieved by human beings.  Our speaker Janice Fischer, is a longtime Oakdale resident and educator who was recognized by the Harvard Club as one of Long Island’s best teachers.  No registration required.  For additional information, please call the library or visit our website.
