Alegría Ensemble perform “While the Sand Still Runs”, a new composition by Professor Emeritus Edward Smaldone at Port Washington Library. The programme also includes works by Ernest Bloch, Lili Boulanger, and Haydn, offering a diverse and thoughtful afternoon.

The Alegría Ensemble is founded by three queens residents and Queens College alumni, brings together musicians from diverse backgrounds and offers a fresh perspective on classical and contemporary music. Violinist Chloe Dickens (from England) cellist Sara Juneau (Italy) and pianist Ricky Moreira (Ecuador) bring a distinctive level of expertise and enthusiasm to their music-making. The ensemble is dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment where new works can be premiered, and established pieces can be reimagined. What unites Alegría’s members is their belief that live music performance will be kept alive through imaginative, accessible programmes that appeal to all ages.
