AkumuFest – An Interactive Japanese Horror Experience
AkumuFest: The Japanese Nightmare Festival Comes to Brooklyn
Step into the shadows this Halloween season at AkumuFest, an immersive Japanese horror festival taking over Japan Village, Brooklyn, on Saturday, October 25th, 2025.
Presented by Kaede Kimonos and JapanCultureNYC under the patronage of Japan Village, AkumuFest invites guests to experience a haunted village unlike any other—where folklore and fashion collide, and the line between the living and the supernatural begins to blur.
Wander through eerie kimono displays, encounter roaming Yokai spirits, samurai, and cursed villagers, and take part in spooky photo ops, performances, and interactive games throughout the day. As dusk falls, the festival transforms into AkumuFest: After Dark, featuring the first-ever “Parade of One Hundred Yokai” in Brooklyn, live music, comedy, and hauntingly beautiful performances.
Guests can shop from a curated selection of local vendors, try themed food and drinks, and even test their courage in interactive experiences like the haunted house and “curse” challenges. Costumes, kimonos, and cosplay are encouraged—after all, every spirit needs a disguise.
AkumuFest is a free, all-day event (11 AM – 8 PM) that celebrates the chilling charm of Japanese folklore through art, performance, and community. Whether you come as a Yokai, a Ronin, or just a curious mortal, you’ll leave with stories you’ll never forget… if you make it out before nightfall.
