A Walk in the Woods at Blue Heron Park

Take a winter walk on the eastern side of the park to visit some of the lesser walked trails. Blue Heron is a nature refuge on the South Shore of Staten Island with natural areas that include meadows, ponds, marshes and freshwater streams. Participants take a walk from Spring Pond following the Red Trail to Butterfly Pond, then by local roads to the eastern edge of the park. On the way try to identify some of the trees by their shape and bark. Heavy snow and ice, or other inclement weather (but not a light rain) will cancel.
